If you are a social worker with experience supporting people with intellectual disability,  developmental disability, neurological conditions or emotional and behavioural needs, you already bring a strong understanding of people, systems, relationships, trauma, rights and advocacy. You know that behaviour can be shaped by a person’s history, environment, communication, unmet needs and support network.

You already see what others might miss. The behaviour is only part of the story. You look beyond it to the person’s history, relationships, environment and rights. You’ve referred people to Positive Behaviour Support. Now, you could be the person helping uncover the causes, create the strategies and drive the change.

PBS starts from something you already know: behaviour is communication. When someone does not have the words, skills or tools to say what they need, the need shows up another way. PBS is the work of understanding why, changing what is around the person rather than the person, and teaching the skills that meet that need another way.

It is a discipline, not a knack: backed by international research and practised in group homes, schools, workplaces, family homes and the community. Register for our information session to find out how your social work experience could translate.
